Mick Clarke
Honky Tonk Blues

Recorded by Mick Clarke at Rockfold Studio, Surrey, England

My version of the Hank Williams classic "Honky Tonk Blues" - "I went to a dance and wore out my shoes!". This is a single release from the new album to be released early next year, featuring 13 tracks - new compositions plus a few covers.

Honky Tonk Blues (single) Release date: 1 November 2018
New Album Release date: 1 February 2019

I've always been a huge fan of Hank Williams - I recorded his "Honky Tonkin'" on my very first solo album back in 1983. I've always thought of him as a great white bluesman as well as the king of country. This track went down fast - Fender Strat on the rhythm and an Epiphone Les Paul Junior (one P90 pickup) playing the lead. The vocals went on the day after a gig - my croaky voice eased with sips of whisky. I love this track and I hope you enjoy it too.

Well I left my home down on the rural route
I told my pa I'm going steppin out and get the
Honky tonk blues
Yeah the honky tonk blues
Well Lord I got 'em
I got the honky tonk blues

Well I went to a dance and I wore out my shoes
Woke up this mornin wishin I could lose
Them jumpin honky tonk blues
Yeah the honky tonk blues
Well Lord I got 'em
I got the honky tonk blues

I'm gonna tuck my worries underneath my arm
And scat right back to my pappy's farm
And leave these honky tonk blues
Yeah the honky tonk blues
Well Lord I got 'em
I got the honky tonk blues

Well the honky tonk blues
Yeah the honky tonk blues
Well Lord I got 'em
I got the honky tonk blues
